You may need to use your mobile phone's personal hotspot to set up the robot's network in the following scenarios:
- Router failure: If your home router malfunctions and fails to transmit Wi-Fi signals properly, preventing the robot from connecting to the home Wi-Fi, you can try setting up the network using a personal hotspot.
- Unstable network
If the home network frequently has instability issues such as weak signals, disconnections, or excessively slow speeds—affecting the robot's network setup or normal operation—a personal hotspot can quickly test whether the robot can connect to the network normally, helping determine if the problem lies with the home network. - Unsupported router frequency band
The robot only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. If the 2.4GHz band of your home router is not enabled or unavailable, and you still cannot set up the network after adjusting the router settings, you can use a personal hotspot to complete the network setup. - No network in a new environment
In places without available Wi-Fi, such as new homes or temporary offices, if you want to use the robot's network-dependent functions (e.g., controlling the robot via the app, enabling the robot to map, etc.), you can set up the robot's network using a personal hotspot to achieve initial setup and usage.
Preparation
- Two mobile phones: One for enabling the personal hotspot, and the other for installing and operating the Narwal Freo App
- Ensure sufficient power: Make sure both mobile phones and the robot have enough battery to avoid setup failures due to low power during the network configuration process.
- Enable relevant permissions: On the phone that operates the Freo App, ensure the App has obtained relevant permissions such as location and local network access; turn on the phone's Bluetooth function.
Hotspot Settings
- Turn on the hotspot: Enter the settings interface of the hotspot phone, find the "Personal Hotspot" or "Mobile Hotspot" option, and enable it.
- Set hotspot access: Set a simple and easy-to-remember hotspot name (SSID) and password. Note that the password should avoid special characters as much as possible to ensure the robot can connect smoothly.
⚠️ Spacial Note for iOS:Turn on "Maximize Compatibility" on the Personal Hotspot settings page.
Settings > Personal Hotspot > Toggle on Allow Others to Join > Set a WLAN Password > Toggle on "Maximize Compatibility"
